Botany

Government College Dhaliara — Department of Botany

Botany in the college is offered to UG students as an integral part of B.Sc. Medical degree (a three-years duration full-time course) affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University. The candidates are admitted on the basis of merit of marks obtained in the previous qualifying exam i.e 10+2, as strictly per HPU rules.

The department boasts of following the CBCS pattern adopted under RUSA thereby providing an opportunity for the students to choose courses from the prescribed courses comprising core, elective or skill based courses. The student’s performance is assessed on the basis of CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) grades. The department has a well equipped botany lab. The department aims at imparting the knowledge of botanical science among the students by making them understand the scientific terms, facts, various phenomena and their relationship in the nature. Also, the various skill enhancement and elective courses have been carefully designed so as to ensure the enhanced application of acquired botanical knowledge and related fields for improved and sustainable agriculture. Since botany covers all aspects of the life of plants ranging from their structure and development, physiology and biochemistry, genetics and even their relationships with the environment and other organisms thus, the department also works towards developing a sense of awareness for conservation of natural resources and protection of environment among the students.
